"Iracema" is a brazilian novel by José de Alencar published in 1865. The story revolves around the relationship between Iracema, a Tabajara indigenous woman; and Martim, a Portuguese colonist who was allied with Tabajara enemies, the Pitiguaras. Through the novel Alencar poetically describe the origins of the Brazilian colonial state of Ceará's. "Iracema Guardiã" is one of the Iracema statues in Fortaleza, the state capital of Ceará.
